If there was one voice in Australian jazz more recognized than any other, it would be that of Vince Jones. Our leading vocalist, interpreter, trumpet player and composer has entertained and informed us for decades with his ever-evolving elite group of musicians.
It’s been 6 years since the release of his critically acclaimed ‘Moving Through Taboos’, and for many fans it’s felt like a life time considering Vince’s prolific output in previous years.
VITAMIN RECORDS is proud to present Vince Jone’s latest offering, ‘Modern Folk’. This compilation of songs was recorded live by Mash Ferris, on different stages around Australia, at The Basement, Woodford Folk Festival, Stonnington Jazz Festival and the Byron Bay Entertainment Centre, as well as two live tracks recorded at 301 in Sydney by Dave Nichols.
“A musician paints his or her life with the music they play. Each song a colour, each album a painting, reflecting the thoughts and experiences of that time. I have tried to make as beautiful and evocative music as I possibly could, and will keep this philosophy in the forthcoming music. You can only hope all the work you’ve produced will combine to make as honest a self portrait as you can possibly make,” says Vince Jones.
Vince Jones’ music includes original songs and beautiful contemporary versions of jazz standards. His themes are often love, injustice, peace and anti-greed. The heart of Vince’s work lies at the crossroads of Afro-American blues and the melodies of the Celtic folk tradition. The songs he chooses – written by him or by others – always make an original, personal statement.
